Social anxiety can pop up anytime, usually at the moments we feel the most insecure. These moments can range from picking out an outfit for the day to navigating the social environment of a party. Social anxiety at a party, Part 1

Have you ever seen people talking from across the room and instantly feared that they were talking about you? This is a common thought for people with social anxiety. When this happens we tend to go to the worst case scenario and assume they are saying things that are bad. We may even try to push these negative thoughts out of our mind however it only takes one small glance or a smile from those around us and we instantly fall victim to social anxiety. We start to doubt the way we present, such as what we are wearing or how our hair looks.

Fear that you won't find someone to talk with when you get to a party can also cause a lot of social anxiety. Nobody wants to be the one standing by themselves all night while everyone else is having their own conversations. You might spot someone you kind of know and think “Maybe I can talk with that person?” Someone experiencing social anxiety might think that person is having a really important conversation and can't be interrupted even though the truth is that conversation is most likely not that important.

Social anxiety can also pop up when you are getting ready for your day. You pick out a shirt from the closet and think, this shirt is a little unusual but it is comfortable and I like it. Then the thought creeps into your mind “Yeah, but will other people like it?” Instantly that shirt you were so excited about gets thrown back into the closet in exchange for that boring shirt that is uncomfortable and nobody notices you in.
